Help! My Thoughts are Thinking Me…..

confused thoughts Do you feel like that sometimes? ** I have to change these thoughts! I need to change them right now! ** ….. And they ain’t changing!

Here you are — you have identified thoughts/beliefs that aren’t serving you. Now you have decided — OK I’m getting rid of those thoughts – NOW! ~~~~ Poof – they are gone….

Nope – it doesn’t work that way….. “What you resist — will persist” — I’ll explain – follow along with me – First I need you to absolutely under no condition think about a Huge Pink Elephant with Purple Dots. OK?

Hmmm so how Big and how Pink is your Elephant? You were thinking about him or her – weren’t you? Once I said “don’t think of it” – You did! Imagine how I feel — I writing this and I have Huge Pink Elephants dancing all around in my head! ;)

So why does this happen – “what you resist – will persist”? Well it is Law of Attraction at work. It just shows you how perfect this law is. LOA does not hear the word “No” — LOA really doesn’t hear – it goes on your vibration – your thoughts are vibrations remember… So even though I said do not think of —— your attention went to it — and LOA brought it right to you.

So how the heck can I change my thoughts if I can’t say “No” to a thought? If you are new to this — this can seem a bit confusing — but hang in there — it is all going to make sense……..

Let’s take an example – Let’s say I’m aware of a thought that tells me “I’m not good enough”. (Oh I have certainly – been here – done that) That thought certainly does not feel good and by carrying it around – I am attracting more things that will prove “I’m not good enough” – that is LOA in action.

So — I decide – OK I’m not going to think that thought anymore. But that does not work — because I have just put more attention on the thought “I’m not good enough” — which wil bring me ………………. Yup you got — more stuff that proves “I’m not good enough”!

We need to discharge the *stuff* around that thought. I know there are many therapists that will say you need to go back to where this all started – rehash your whole life – look at how this has affected you — yada — yada — yada. I say – “No you don’t need to go back” and if you do go back – you are going to stir up lots of crappy feelings – so be prepared to feel crappy for quite sometime!

I say — Take that thought and make peace with it – embrace it – acknowledge there was a part of your life that you somehow learned this.

OK so I have this belief…. (beliefs are thoughts that you have thought over and over again) …. It came from old stuff – old inaccurate stuff – I know this thought isn’t true — I’ve done plenty of good things in my life — start listing them…..

Now we are not resisting the thought — we are starting to change it. We are soothing the feelings – discharging the stuff within it. If you need help with this – go back to our last article Fine Tuning Vibrations where we talked about soothing our feelings….

important If you are having a day — where no matter what you do — those thoughts are still thinking you…. Try to soothe it even just a tiny bit — and then go do something else! Do something that will occupy your mind – I think the best thing is to watch a comedy movie. Read a book – listen to music that makes you smile – ride a bike on a busy street — hey you have to keep your thoughts on the cars and you won’t have those random thoughts coming at you! ;)

Don’t fight the thoughts – that is probably what got you here in the first place. If you have been fighting off the thoughts – resisting them – you have some momentum going this way… So just relax with it — make it OK and go find something to occupy your brain with.

You will feel better — thoughts will slow down — the more you soothe and feel better — the better the thoughts will get.

  • Discharge the *stuff* by soothing yourself
  • Go watch a funny movie to change the direction of your brain

Hi Ellie

I was resisting negative thoughts, I used to say to myself “Im not going to think about this now I need to be positive” and the more I said that the more it kept grinding at me! So the last few weeks when I get those thoughts I do something, watch TV, call a friend, read a book, magazine etc and so now even though I cant help but think about negative stuff sometimes at least I dont focus on it so much. Its not easy sometimes but at least the majority of the time Im not focusing so much on issues.

I read somewhere its your dominant thoughts that attract is that right?

Hi Mary….
So – as you have found — what you resist will persist! And you have found that by doing something – reading a book – calling a friend — you can at least change those thoughts… Congratulations – you are getting the hang of this!

Are dominant thoughts the attracting thoughts? — Well all thoughts are attracting — but your dominant thoughts will end up doing the most attracting to you. If the thought(s) are dominant — it just means those are the thoughts that you have placed the most emphasis on — those are the thoughts with the most emotion attached to them… We will certainly be going into this much deeper.

Try this — don’t label your thoughts “negative” or “positive”. I use those words when I write as an explanation — but I don’t like to use those labels in my life. I prefer “thoughts that are serving me” — and — “thoughts that are not serving me” — The label “negative” sounds like a very charged word.

“Not focusing on it so much” — that is great! And if you can raise the thought just a tiny bit — it will get easier and easier to raise those thoughts and raise your vibration!

Hi,

I saw this site and must say the the LOA scares me because I know it is making me miserable. I have anxiety issues and the more I try to stop them, the more pronounced they are. Your suggestion to embrace them seems the only way.

I will be tough but I will try to do that. Thanks for this site.

Hi Dave…

I understand the feeling scared of LOA – but I must tell you that is because you have not yet totally grasped how Powerful You Are!!

LOA says “like attract like” – so if I am feeling anxiety – I must be having anxiety thoughts – I can soothe those thoughts. I can be kind to me and gentle and nice to me.

You are a Blessed, Magnificent, Creator! :D Allow yourself to Be You! Be kind and gentle to You everyday! You will start to feel better everyday!
