Today the kids are all excited – Santa is coming to town! They are filled with the anticipation – they are filled with Joy!
Earlier today, I spoke to one of my nieces – she has three boys ages 9, 5 & 22 months. Yes her house is always busy and filled with enthusiasm. Hmmm some days she might call it noise!
Ian, her oldest son, was able to purchase gifts at school for his family. He had brought his bag home and stored it away. This morning when he got up – he ran for his bag of gifts — He was coming out into the living room with his bag ready to distribute his gifts to his little brothers and Mom & Dad.
“Where is Dad?” he was asking – My niece was still not sure what he was doing. Dad is at work she told him. “Oh no he can’t work on Christmas” That is when my niece realized he was ready to pull out his gifts to give to all…. “It’s not Christmas today – Christmas is tomorrow!” Ohhhh – so the bag went back into it’s hiding place to be brought back out tomorrow.
I had a big smile when I heard this story. He didn’t run to see what was under the tree for him. He was so excited about what he picked out to give to his family. He was so thrilled with the moment.
Kids know how to be in the moment – in the now. They know how to extract every ounce of joy out of their experiences! Did you ever watch them as they walk out into their yard to play? It’s the same yard they walk out into everyday… Yet they get out there and the next thing you know they are laughing… giggling… smiling….
I’ve heard some people say they are being goofy! Goofy – I think that is a state we should all aspire to! Look how much fun it is to be Goofy! Look how much Joy there is in Goofy!
Go out into your yard, your family room, your living room and just be Goofy. Make funny faces at your mate, jump up and throw your hands up to the sky, tickle your kids, get on the floor with your dog, sing funny songs and laugh and laugh and laugh!
When you connect with that joy in you – you then realize nothing is more important than feeling good! Nothing is really a big deal. Relax, enjoy the moment, find something to smile about!
Be Goofy – That is my Christmas wish for you!
