Adversity – what do you think of when you say that word?

What do you feel when you say it?

I asked several people what thoughts come to mind when they hear that word.

  • Problem
  • Obstacle
  • Trouble
  • Bad Situation

OK – So we all agree we don’t consider this a happy word — When we hear it our thoughts turn to something negative…. to a feeling of powerlessness.

I hear some well meaning people say things like “Embrace Adversity” or “Overcome Adversity” – “Face Adversity” and some say “Allow Adversity”

We know our experiences are created from our vibrations — If I am putting my attention on adversity – aka bad situations – aka problems — The signal I am emitting is one of adversity — Do I really want to be calling this to me?

I’m not going to embrace, overcome, face or allow adversity – I’m going to make it disappear!

Re-frame Adversity

Some of you are already experiencing a job loss – maybe your house is in foreclosure. Maybe your business has slowed down and your expenses have risen.

I do understand these are not fun situations – I also understand how the Law of Attraction works…. By continuing to label these situations as bad, as adversity – you continue to hold them in your focus – which continues the merry go round of adversity.

That is the Law of Attraction at work - it always will bring to you the signal you are sending out. It is mirroring to you what you have your attention on. If your attention is on lack – you are then riding on the lack merry-go-round.

You need to take a step back… and make peace with the situation.

How?

First by realizing that complaining, being angry or worrying about it – will never, ever make the situation better! So simply state – “What is – IS” – I can’t change this situation but I can deliberately choose how I am going to react to it.

What ever has gone on is history – even if it just happened minutes ago. Trying to change something that has already happened is what makes us feel powerless – as it can not be done! Deciding to deliberately make peace with it and find the opportunity is where you re-frame it and gain your power back.

What possible opportunity could be found in the foreclosure of a house or the loss of a job?

That is your job – to find the opportunity…. Sometimes it is just simply stating – “This situation is frustrating for me — but I’m OK – my family is OK and somehow I have faith that this is all going to work out.”

There is relief in that statement – as you find relief – you give yourself more space for better feelings thoughts to come in. As you feel better you open the space for good things to come to you.

If you stay in the space of worry and anxiety – Law of Attraction will do its job and bring more things with worry and anxiety… The Universe can not show you the opportunities until you develop the thought – the vibration.

6 ½ years ago my partner unexpectedly made her transition. I was in total shock – that night I looked into the mirror and said out loud “In this pile of crap – there is a diamond and I am going to find it”

No – I wasn’t being gallant – I understood the Law of Attraction. I understood if I put myself in the victim mode – I was going to attract more discord. So I made a commitment to me ….. it was my job everyday to find a way to feel OK.

Acceptance makes Adversity Disappear…

Some may think I am saying to make believe the situation is not happening. I am not at all implying that. If you are trying to make believe something doesn’t upset you – it does still indeed upset you!

Making peace is a very different scenario — You are looking at the subject – You are accepting that this has happened – You are making the decision that you are not going to fall into the adversity trap – instead you are going to deliberately choose your thoughts.

I work with clients who hold onto grudges, disappointments, resentments for years…. All the energy that is wasted on a situation that has already happened – and never once has all that energy changed what did indeed go on.

Stepping back and declaring “What is – IS” is actually a powerful step. I can stop wasting my energy lamenting about this situation and I can direct my energy towards thoughts that make me feel better. While I can’t change a situation that has already happened – I can claim my power by deliberately choosing how I am going to react to it.

This is a step by step process – if you are in despair you are not going to jump straight up into joy. Step by step continue to deliberately choose your thoughts – thoughts that make you feel better.

You will feel your power in this process - you will gain great insight about your life – your vibration will rise and the doors of opportunity will open for you. You will soon say “Adversity? What adversity? I get to choose if a situation is a problem or an opportunity!”

Indeed this is powerful: realizing that letting ‘what is’ be ‘what is’ leaves you in complete control of how you react to ‘what is’ – so incredibly freeing – I love it!

This is so true. Adversity is really one of the problems why the law of attraction doesn’t work for you. That feeling of doubt and fear adds to the negative energy you have because of adversity. In order to try to open up your mind, try to meditate to relax your mind from adversity. And be grateful for what you have. Gratitude is the best way to start your day. It gives you that feeling of fulfillment.
