I was POWER – LESS!

by Ellie

POWERLESS I was Powerless for 33 hours! 8O

Literally – - I live in upstate NY in the beautiful Schoharie Valley… and… we had an ice storm on Thursday night into Friday morning.

Late Thursday night I was sitting here at the computer and the lights were dimming every now and then. I do remember thinking – I hope the power doesn’t go out!

Friday morning I got up and the power was still on… That felt Good!

Then about 10:30 AM – Poof – went the computer … I was Power – Less!

Well it was still daytime – so we didn’t need lights – and while it was cold outside – the house was warm…. at first….

No computer – Hmmm no big deal this is a good time to do some other things around the house….

I live up here for the last 22 years and we have never been without power for a sustained time – So in my head I was thinking – No big deal the power will be back on soon….

As the day went on – I started putting more clothes on – it was getting chilly in here…. And where are those hurricane lamps and candles?

We have a fireplace – so out we went to bring in some wood. Let’s start a fire – take the chill out of the house.

The fireplace was glowing and I moved Zowie’s cage over near it. Zowie is my 12 year old Sun Conure Parrot… She seemed OK during all of this – the dogs are doing good – the cat is OK – the human’s have sweatshirts on – several of them… The candles are burning – can’t do much in this light… It’s very windy out – and while the fireplace throws some heat – you really need to stay close. OK let’s move our chairs close to it, next to Zowie….

When is the power coming back?!

Now it is dark and cold and this IS starting to feel like a big deal! OK – Talk to myself – it’s OK – we are all OK – nothing to worry about… at least we have some heat… The power will be back soon… Won’t It?!

The rest of the night was not very restful – as we needed to keep the fire going…

During the night I was thinking – We are indeed POWER LESS — but I do not have to Feel Powerless! This is a situation – an experience – I can get all upset – I can get angry and I can Feel Powerless – It won’t change the situation…

And… knowing the Law of Attraction – if I slip into that Powerless feeling it will indeed change the situation - as my experience is all about How I Feel – not about what is going on!

So I continued to make a conscious decision not to Feel Powerless during the Power Less situation!

The next morning the power was still out and it was cold in the house… We decided to go buy a kerosene heater – and we’ll take Zowie with us as it is warmer in the car! Off we went – Me, Carol & Zowie…. we told the dogs and cat – hang in there – we will be back…

The whole time we continued to consciouly make the best of the situation… and I have to tell you the ride to Albany was absolutely beautiful! I know this ice storm knocked out the power for lots & lots of people – but the views it was giving us where spectacular!

Here is a view from our front porch…

Power Less but Beautiful!

We arrived at a Home Depot store and they had just received a new shipment of kerosene heaters! There were lots of people in there stocking up on them!  So…. back we went with our new heaters…. Everything is OK -

To make a longer story a bit shorter – the electric power came back on Saturday evening around 7:30PM! Poof the lights in the house went on – and Poof I was doing a Happy Dance!  :D

I have to admit I started to go up and down with my vibration during these 33 hours… It is so easy to fall into that trap of Feeling Powerless because of a situation that is going on…. I had to make that conscious decision not to personalize this!

Instead of saying “Look what’s happening TO ME” – I said “Look what’s happening” Period.

That shift of perception makes a Huge difference! Then from there – I was determined to find a way to Feel Good! And…. if I wasn’t able to get all the way up to Feel Good – I absolutely made sure I could at least Feel OK!

ImportantIt’s that determination that makes the difference. At anytime during those 33 hours – I always had the choice – I could look at the situation and Feel Powerless or I could look at it and find thoughts that made me Feel Better!

We have that ability – that choice – in every situation that is going in life. Health, the economy, jobs, relationships – we get to choose how we look at each situation.

Skeptics will say – What good did it do me to choose how I look at the situation as it didn’t change the situation….

I always find that statement rather funny – In essence what is being asked is “What good did it do you to Feel Good” Huh? The answer is simple – I Felt GOOD!! – isn’t that Good?!?! 8O

I will say it again – How we each experience a situation is all about how we Feel – not about what is going on!

I will point to the one accident on the corner – 10 people witness it – each gives an accident report and you end up with 10 different accidents! Life is truly all about your individual perception!

We are always Power-Filled – we just need to have the determination to Feel Good and within that decision you will harness the Power of who your truly are!

Are you reaching for your Power within the situations in your life?

I grew up over in Greene County in upstate NY–small world! The view from your porch reminds me of the view from the house I grew up in. I’m glad to hear your power is back on, and that you were able to make the best of the situation!

It certainly sounds like you made the best of a very uncomfortable situation: to lose power for so long in winter. I even got an image of a parrot, two dogs, a cat, and two people huddled around the fireplace :-)

Hey there!
Great post! wonderful photograph of the view, breathtaking.
Yes, powerless is how I felt with you both there and me in Germany. I just kept telling myself that everything wit my house will be fine, then I put a lovely golden curtain around it. I just said “I know that this situation is being taken care of by PUM and all is going to be fine! I am 4, 000 miles away and can’t do anything except send out good vibes” Everything did turn out fine and we had some laughs at the same time!
Thanks for writing this wonderful post!
LOL

Hi Coryelle…

Yes everything worked out AOK

The only thing we really can do is “send out good vibes” – hold the vision of what we desire and keep the thoughts of “all is well” – that is indeed stepping into our Power….

Yes – I did take action – but the action was inspired – - We ended up in the right store that day that had the heaters – and it actually wasn’t the closest store for us to go to!

Stay Warm & Happy in Germany! ;)

Hugs

Hi Ellie,
Great article — gorgeous picture! And you slept through the beauty
of the night before — the reflection of the moon off the snow and ice — the near-daylight it produced. More than one person was brought to tears of appreciation from the experience of that night in spite of the hardships that it brought. The silver lining around the cloud? Or the miracle of Appreciation??
Thanks for sharing your experience,
Carol

Hi Carol……

So the so-called hardship was indeed a powerful connection to the silver lining around the cloud! ;)
