Good Foods vs Bad Foods

by Ellie

Are there good foods and bad foods?

Do diets work? Do diet/food supplements work? Can I loose weight just by my thoughts? These are questions I get asked often…

We, as a society, have put a lot of attention on food…. A lot of attention on good and bad food… A lot of attention on our weight….

Well… people say – just take a look – there are many overweight people today so apparently the food is making them fat! And.. now we even have lots of kids that are overweight….

Hmmmm – which came first – the many overweight people or the attention to overweight??

Now before you all bombard me with the studies and statistics about food…. Please know I am not impressed with statistics. If you want to prove something is right or wrong and you go looking for the facts to back that up – You will indeed find those facts – that is the Law of Attraction at work!

Trying to figure out what is right or wrong for your body by reading the studies and statistics is a backward way of going about it.

Your body knows what is right or wrong for it!! Why not get in tune with your body instead of reading and researching?!

I hear some saying… “I am overweight – I do listen to my body – it tells me to eat and I eat! It wants me to eat all those bad foods that make me fat and I follow it and eat them! My body is hurting me!”

Is it your body asking for those foods – or is it a habit of eating that is asking for those foods?

Just like we have habits of thoughts – we have habits of eating – which are actually first thoughts that have manifested into actions.

So am I saying you just need to follow your body and you will be fit and trim?

Yes I am saying that…. And I am very aware most of us have no idea of how to follow our body’s voice. Most of us are not listening to our bodies we are listening to all the brain chatter that runs through our heads!

Since we are little we have heard people talk about what is and isn’t good for us to eat…

  • How much we should and shouldn’t eat
  • This food is good and this food is bad
  • If something tastes really good it is usually bad for you
  • Don’t eat that it will make you fat….
  • Desert is bad for you

The list of what is bad for you is HUGE — and if you have been around for awhile – you have noticed that list can and does change. Some things that were on the bad list are now on the good list…. Some things were on the good list – then on the bad list and now they are back on the good list!!

Here are a few that were on the bad list and now on the good list:

  • Eggs
  • Coffee
  • Peanut Butter
  • There are more………

My Goodness – You better keep your list updated!!

Not only do we have good & bad rules to our foods we also have learned behaviors attached to them….

How many people learned to eat when they were sad?

A little child is crying and someone tells them “Don’t be sad – here is an ice cream cone” Talk about “stuffing” your feelings! This is a learned behavior – as it is done over and over it becomes a habit… Many of us “stuff” our feelings without even being aware of what we are doing.

Here is another one – Dinner is not complete without desert. So you eat desert… it’s a habit – You don’t even ask your body if it is indeed hungry – you just get the desert and eat it….

And of course probably the most famous – Eat all the food on your plate…. (even if I am no longer hungry?) – Eat all the food on your plate…. (even though you put too much food on my plate?) – Eat all the food on your plate…. (OK got it)

If we were raised in a family that many were overweight – we also learned their behaviors….

And….We, as a society, use food for many different reasons;

  • To comfort
  • To celebrate
  • To grieve
  • To cure our boredom…

Wait there are more beliefs attached to our weight –

  • Once you gain weight it is hard to lose it
  • As you get older it is harder to lose weight
  • Women after menopause gain weight
  • Men in midlife gain weight

The information and beliefs about food and diet and our weight goes on and on …. I could write pages about it!

Some say use supplements others say No – Some say limit your fats others say No – Some say it’s the carbohydrates that will make you fat… others say No….

We can get 2 people to eat exactly the same – one will lose weight the other will not. If the information and studies about all these diets was absolutely 100% true – then both people should lose weight — or both should stay the same – YES?

So why is that?…. Ahhhh Now we are finally coming to – each of us is unique!

Oops – Now I started the metabolism statistic people…. Yes I will agree our metabolisms are different – but why is that? And how can anyone say this is the diet/supplement – if we are so hugely different?

Want the easiest way to stay in shape, to lose weight and to feel good about what you eat?

Follow your own inner voice!

Yes it is that simple…. In order to follow your own inner voice you do indeed need to recognize if you are not at the weight or energy level that you desire in your life – than you are not hearing your inner voice – you are hearing the brain chatter of beliefs!

Does that mean you should not be on a diet or using a supplement food?

Nope I didn’t say that – I said Follow your own Inner Voice….

Want to continue this conversation? ….

Let me know what you think – Do you think there are Good Foods & Bad Foods? What about Diets? Supplements? Following your Inner Voice? Which do you think really works?

I’ll be back in a few days with part 2……….

I wholeheartedly agree with you here and in my teleclass series ‘Healing Your Relationship with Food’ reconnecting (as so many of us have numbed that connection) and listening to our body is one of the 1st things we look at and deepen.

It really is that simple, cut out the distracting noise and listen to your body, it holds a lot of wisdom and won’t trick you like your mind can.

In love, light and abundance x x x

Are you friends with food?
Are you friends with your body?
Are you friends with money?

What is your relationship with that which you want in your life? If the relationship is one of control, that which you control will control you.

What if you thought:

Food is my friend – my body is my friend – my metabolism is my friend

Try consistently and watch what happens!

Dear Ellie

I love having a peek inside your head. Didn’t Mr Shakespeare say, “Nothing is good or bad but that thinking makes it so”? Same goes for food and for body size.

I was a healthy fit weight and I loved my body until I was 18 and people started saying to me, “Oh my you need to watch your weight, you are getting bigger” In fact, I was going through a natural process of going from being a superslim growing teenager to maturing into a rounder figured woman. But I live in a world that values being superslim and so people wanted that for me.

I started to worry about it and got a bit bigger. Then I became too self-conscious to participate in athletic activities and got a bit bigger. Then I starved and dieted and broke down and ate again and got a bit bigger. I started to picture myself as vastly overweight and got a little bit bigger.

Once I fasted for two weeks at a health centre and thought the whole two weeks about how fat I was and hardly changed at all (I lost 4 lbs after a two week fast – almost no change at all, imagine my chagrin).

Once the reverse happened. I lost thirty pounds and returned to my ideal weight without noticing (I moved to Italy where there’s no such thing as processed food and was working really hard). I genuinely didn’t notice and took no pleasure in it because I was so disconnected from what my body really looked like. It was only when I went home for a wedding three months later and had to have my bridesmaid’s dress taken in two sizes that I realised.

Then I discovered The Law of Attraction and stopped dieting forever. I started to love myself better. I started to move in ways that are a pleasure to me. I eat more raw food and more fresh food. I still comfort eat sometimes and I quickly forgive myself and eat more consciously. I read Sondra Ray’s marvellous book, The Only Diet There Is. I unearthed and released a lot of guilt about food and my imperfect body. I realised I had some very serious and strict beliefs about weight.

I truly used to think, “Only people who are completely controlled around food and have a rigorous exercise regime deserve to have bodies they love and to be their ideal weights”.

Now I say, it’s okay that I once gave myself sweeties when what I really wanted was love. And I make a new start (that includes sweeties some of the time).

It’s nice to be reminded that there are a lot of grounded people who can affirm to me, I will lose weight if I think I will, I will gain weight if I think I will. I am creating every aspect of my life. Including my body. Especially my body.

Hi Ellie,
If it helps, I’d like to share my experience on the subject: whenever I’m happy and relaxed I lose weight. Whenever I’m anxious, nervous or worried, I put on weight. The food I put into my body doesn’t change much, as I always buy the same in the supermarket. So the trick is somewhere else, I’m sure.

for me, the most obvious fact is my increasing weight. In my inner source, I want to become a bit fatter to make my mother happy. so though I still eat the same food, I got hungry easier and wanted to eat something especially before sleep. sometimes, my younger brother will ask me to make food for him before sleep, so I also will eat some.

The inner voice decides the real result in my physical world. Now I begin changing my own thought and form a ideal model weight in my mind.

I can feel my weight is changing back to ideal weight. I made a affirmation that said “I can easily come back to ideal weight naturally.”

for me, I still choose cooked food. although raw food is good, I still don’t turn to it now because I believe my mind will tell me when to eat it. My only work are just receive and then act.

Found your page “by accident” and fell in love with everything here. Yes, dieting and weight are a huge issue for so many, myself included. I can see clearly how the LOA has been at work in my life with regard to weight, both gaining and losing, for years. I’ve created this, and if I’ve created it, I can uncreate it using what I know now-just channeling it in the direction I want. It’s great reading all the wonderful posts here, and I will be back for more! Thank you all for sharing so freely!

Isn’t it great to *hear* your inner voice and know you can follow it’s guidance.

Thanks for sharing! ;)

Hi Lucy

Don’t you just love “accidents” – - as they guide us to what we are seeking!

I, personally would not want to be “un-creating” – as in truth that is not possible.

What is possible is creating – Yes I created this which means I am extremely powerful and can indeed create whatever I set my sites on and allow into my experience!

What a powerful place to be in!!

Thanks so much for sharing – I hope to hear more from you. :D
