After my first child was born I suffered very bad post-partum depression. Although I had all the pre-disposing factors, I know it was largely brought on by exposure to all the violence in the world and then my dwelling on it because it saw it now in the light of my newborn baby. I kept thinking, "these victims were babies...they had mommies." and "the person who created this violence was once a baby and was loved" and I became petrified with anxiety and fear of the violence in the world. I had to stop reading the papers and watching tv. The more the thoughts went in, the more the depression and fear manifested.

It took a long time to open up again, but I am still disgusted by what the nightly news chooses to focus on. More than that, I am mortified that so many people in this world choose to watch violent movies and television and call it entertainment. How can anything good from so many soaking their brains in these horrible stories? How much violence is being manifested by our choosing to allow ourselves to be engaged by such negative thoughts, emotions, and evil? Who cares if it is just "fiction," the way it settles in our subconscious has to be the same!

Can you tell I have an issue? Why do we allow violence to make up the bulk of what is created in the name of entertainment and pretend there are no negative consequences?

Thanks for the post. Well done.

Hi Carol....

Great Questions! This addresses a road that many of us go down when we start to understand that we are the creators of our lives!

At first there is this great jubilation and then next is this idea of "I've got to get this RIGHT and I've got to Get It NOW!!

I absolutely agree with you - we would all be in a looney bin if we monitored all of those 50,000 - 70,000 thoughts that run through our heads everyday! ;)

"Sloppy Thinking" is referring to the fact that we are not aware of what we are thinking - because we are not aware of what we are feeling!

We seem to settle and allow negative feelings to flow through us without even questioning it.

The word toxic -- hmmmm not my word - I don't think these things are toxic to us... But I do think taking the time to know how I am feeling when I hear that song and see that news program and read that newspaper benefits me - If I am aware of how I am feeling - I am then aware of the vibrations I am sending out.

Take a few moments and read this article I posted about our thoughts. http://livingthelawofattraction.com/loa-blog/thoughts-thinking-me/

Hope this helps.... If it doesn't let me know..........

This GIGO article underlines what you have said in previous articles, such as in “Holiday Hustle and Bustle” as well as “One of Those Days!” Obviously, the focus here is on music which seems like an innocuous topic, but as you point out, it, too, can be toxic to our feeling well-being. And this all brings me to the following question: how on earth can we function on a daily basis without driving ourselves crazy by being constantly mindful of our thoughts? Sometimes, I feel like I need to be in a closed room with eastern-type music playing, incense burning, just meditating all day. Is there a happy medium, or is “happy medium” too sloppy?
