“To live an Extraordinary life” You need to stop doing the “Ordinary things”

extraordinary or ordinary skydiver I was in a conversation last night and that statement was made. It’s not the first time I have heard that statement…. And there was a time I would have agreed with it….

But…. Here is how I would make that statement today;

“To live an Extraordinary life – You need to stop thinking the Ordinary Thoughts”

What is Ordinary? What is Extraordinary? Ahhh – you get to define those words for you – As it is only your perspective that matters!

As a matter of fact – just realizing it is not “them out there” who decides what is extraordinary or ordinary – it is You who decides this for You. That thinking in itself is Extraordinary!

Well at least it has been for me….

Did I live an ordinary life? I promise you – my family would say No – they always felt I was a bit out of the ordinary…. But really – I did live an ordinary life for lots of years. I always had a tendency to think outside of the box – but then I would voice those thoughts to family and friends and they would quickly try to put me back in that box!

So many times I knew I had a really great idea. You know what I’m saying – when you are so excited about your idea – when you just feel it in your bones – throughout your entire being…..

Then I would share that idea – - I got a lot of – “Are you out of your mind? That will never work – or that can never be!”

Hmmmm…. Whose thoughts do you follow? Your thoughts or Their Thoughts?

The answer to that question determines if you live an Extraordinary life or an Ordinary life.

At a young age – I knew I wanted lots & lots from life – -  I wanted to experience all kinds of things…. I loved my family – I respected them – but I wanted more – - I had a calling for more.

I watched my family basically struggle for the little bit they had. And inside of me I had this feeling – this thought – *Life is not suppose to be hard – - and someone knows the method – and I’m going to find it out*

But where was I going to find this out? I went to books – I read about business – setting goals – changing my self esteem – I read a gazillions books…. One of the most repeated things in those books was – “If you continue to do the same things over and over – you will continue to get the same results”

OK – - that made sense………

So I implemented changes – I set goals – I had to do lists – I made a business plan – I even started to wake up early and go for a jog. Hey – these were the things successful authors were telling me to do…. And I wanted that extraordinary life!

BUT – I have to tell you – I don’t like to set goals – I absolutely abhor making a business plan – and I honestly don’t like to get up early and jog – I don’t even like to get up late and jog!

Nothing ever seemed to stick – I always ended up back to where I started – I always ended up back in the ordinary life…..

Why? I stopped doing many of those things “they” said was ordinary – why wasn’t my life now extraordinary? I was very frustrated – but I kept searching – searching for answers…..

Today I know the answer – and the answer lies within the Law of Attraction.

Even though I was doing things different – underneath that doing – I was not thinking different – - I still held those old thoughts from when I was younger – those thoughts that told me I was out of my mind – those thoughts that said my ideas were not going to work…. those thoughts that said life was hard… etc… etc

All the action – all the doing – was not going to change my life – I first needed to change my thoughts!

I needed to trust my own thoughts – I needed to follow my own ideas – I needed to validate my ideas and not look to others for their validation.

Changing what you are doing before you change what you are thinking is kinda like stretching a rubber band. You have this 3 inch rubber band – you can stretch it to maybe 8-9 inches. But – when you let it go – SNAP it is back to 3 inches… OR – If you keep it stretched out for a long time (tension) – SNAP – it Breaks!

The rubber band is basically my experience – I would either get disgusted as I was not seeing any changes – so I would just let it all go = SNAP

OR …..

Sometimes with my teeth clenched I would use sheer determination to make those changes — Tension = SNAP

Then I came upon the Law of Attraction – For me it has been Abraham-Hicks who explains this the best – The thoughts – feelings – vibrations…

When I had made those changes in the past – I was not at all resonating with them – I was not happy, joyful and free – - I was not thinking happy thoughts -

I’m not saying the ideas in those books were wrong – I’m sure there are many people those things resonate with – but – they didn’t resonate with me!

I had to find my own voice – and listen to it! I needed to redefine my life through my thoughts and feelings. I needed to be true to my own inner being.
The ordinary thoughts that I had been thinking were thoughts that I thought I was suppose to think. Does that make sense? I was following other people’s thoughts.

When I reach in and come from my true self – my inner voice – those are the extraordinary thoughts!

Have I made changes in my life? Well I still don’t do business plans and absolutely do not jog! But – I live a very different life today – I am so happy with life! I see the absolute beauty that life gives every single day. I feel connected to my inner being …

Do I take action? Yes of course I do – but it is inspired action – - it is action that comes from being connected to who I am.

I used to do things with the thought – I should be doing that – - Now I do not should on myself anymore. I line up – I line up my thoughts with the extraordinary things I am wanting in life….

The photo I have at the beginning of this article – a skydiver – is that extraordinary? Maybe you said yes at the beginning – but what if that skydiver is doing this because he/she thinks they are suppose to? What if he/she is doing it to please other people? I would then say – - it is ordinary!

And the photo here on the right – ordinary beach – ordinary person taking a walk – - Hmmm what if that person is following their bliss – if they are so connected to their inner voice that they feel as high as that skydiver above – - That is Extraordinary!

Law of Attraction Stop thinking Ordinary Thoughts – and you will have an Extraordinary Life! ;)

Hi Carol –
Thinking & Doing — For me it is realizing that if I am *doing* – taking an action and my thoughts are in the opposite direction – I am not going to get the results I am looking for!

I have heard that we are most connected with our inner voices when we are young, before we learn to listen to the negativity. I know that even when I was in my 20′s and thought I was somewhat of a renegade, I got the jobs I wanted, I went the places I wanted, etc.. as I got older, fear of losing what I had gained played a big part and keeps me where I am today. I have to provide for my family, keep my house, etc.. If I have such a carefree attitude like I did when I was younger, I could suffer a great loss. However, I do believe in myslef and I get the promotions I want, etc.. the key, I still don’t want to be in the job I am in but I am confident and reliant on it. How do you change that? How can you re-connect with your youth to help you become extraordinary again? Thanks for your insight and your great website!

Hi Debbie — This is a Great Question! I’m going to answer you as best I can in this short format – but I do promise to take this even further as a topic within the next few days…. First I must say – I hope you have read all the articles that have already been posted here – as some of your question is being answered in them.

First – We are always connected to our inner voice – but as you say – we hear that inner voice much better when we are younger. That is not about age – but it is about being influenced by society, our parents, teachers any authority figures. Usually those folks are concerned about getting us to listen to them – not to listen to our own guidance. So the longer we are exposed to that – the less we pay attention to our inner voice.

So we do not need to re-connect with our youth – we just need to relearn – remember how to hear our own inner being.

Fear – this is the indicator – the feeling that is telling us we have underlying thoughts going on – we are not in alignment with the thoughts of our inner self. You have stated the most obvious thoughts that are the cause of the fear – -
* fear of suffering a great loss…
* fear of having a carefree attitude…

You can not hear your inner voice – if the voice of fear is ringing through. Why? As we talked about in “The Key to Your Life is Understanding Your Thought Process’ — If you are in Fear – - or Doubt – - You are attracting more Fear or Doubt!

That’s the way Law of Attraction works – “Like attracts Like”

If you tried to make this big change while you are vibrating fear – I do not believe it will be beneficial for you. Just as I talked about the job example in ”Part 2 – Law of Attraction – is Not a Secret!”

I know there are many books, teachers – that will tell you to walk through the fear – or get over the fear. Law of Attraction is not set-up to work that way – (yes we will also be talking about that topic.     ;) )

The first step on your journey would be to soothe the fear – to soothe your feelings, as we talked about in “The Key to Your Life is Understanding Your Thought Process’ You do that one step at a time.

I think it would be great if you went back over these articles and looked at the topics / subjects in your life. Write them done on a sheet of paper – and mark where your feelings are in each area. Then pick the area that you have the least challenges in. The area that you are not 100% comfortable with but maybe you are 90% comfortable with.

If you start in this area of your life – it will be easier to soothe – the quicker you will have results – the quicker your results – the better you feel – the better you feel – the better you feel. “Like attracts Like” The better you start to feel – the more faith you will have in the process – the more powerful you will feel in your life.

Now here is the best part – as you start to feel better and more powerful – you will start to notice the other areas your wrote on your paper are starting to ease up a bit for you. This is Law of Attraction at work!
